The OMSA Committee, CALAOMS Board of Directors and CALAOMS Staff have been working to update the OMSA curriculum. Our vision with this course is to improve the way we teach the material and deliver the information. Please read the following important OMSA course information before registering for the next OMSA course.
The new format for the OMSA course in 2017, now consists of the following:
1. Didactic self-study curriculum composed of narrated PowerPoint Presentation videos to be viewed on-line during a three-month period prior to the weekend seminar. These videos are divided by Systems: e.g. Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Endocrine, Immune, etc. Each module will have a short on-line quiz that must be completed before continuing to the next module. After viewing the videos and completing the quizzes, students will be required to take an on-line Pre-test to ensure that they understand the material that was presented.
2. We will also utilize chat and forum technology to provide instructor feedback and extra help for students who are struggling with various concepts. The faculty monitoring the forums will be oral surgeons who are OMSA Committee members of CALAOMS.
3. A two-day weekend seminar in which the above principles will be applied in simulated real-life scenarios. This weekend will culminate in a final examination.
It is our desire to provide a meaningful, relevant and well-supported educational experience for each assistant, regardless of his/her experience level. Once you are registered in an OMSA course, more detailed information will be sent to you in a confirmation of registration packet.
OMSA courses are offered twice a year, once in Southern California in the Spring and once in Northern California in the Fall. Space is limited so we encourage early registration for both the Initial Training and Recertification courses.
OMSA certificates are valid for 5 years. You must Recertify by the end of the year you are expiring in, regardless of the month, or you will be required to register as an "Initial" and repeat the on-line self-study portion of the course. Extensions will not be granted.
The "OMSA Fall 2017 Northern California" course is now Full and Registration is Closed. We do not have 2018 OMSA course dates and locations set yet. Please check back periodically, we suggest the first of every month, for updated OMSA Course information. Thank you.
